Transas Telematics to Track the Fleet of the Velux 5 Oceans PDF Print E-mail
ImageThe VELUX 5 OCEANS around the world race is known to be one of the most arduous and challenging singled handed yacht races in the world, billed as ‘The Ultimate Solo Challenge.’ Transas Telematics (a Transas Group company) is delighted to be providing the internet based tracking system for the 24/7 race management team to monitor competitor progress and most importantly their safety.

“Irrespective of location, single handed racing at this level can be extremely dangerous,” commented Paul Morter, Head of Sales and Online Services for Transas Telematics. “We are proud to be providing this essential race monitoring support service that could prove a vital lifesaver.”

Tracking support is being supplied by Livewire-Connections the maritime communications specialist who is providing the airtime and traffic management services for this classic race..

David Walker, Sales Director for Livewire remarked, “Good communications is essential and the mix of Inmarsat C and Transas’s Fleet View Online provides the reliability and flexibility we were looking for in an online tracking system. This system provides the race managers with the crucial race oversight they need to do their jobs”. The mix of electronic charting, up to date weather and online information will make the challenging role of the race Duty Officers a little easier.

Race management tracking will be supported using Inmarsat C, with position reports being sent every four hours to Fleet View Online ®, the Transas web based tracking system. Should the duty race officer require additional or more frequent position reports this requirement can be easily implemented using simple menu commands from the Fleet View Online system.

David Adams, Race Director of the VELUX 5 OCEANS, added, “We are building a high quality race HQ and always look to employ the best tools available. The Transas web tracking system is clearly one of the best programs in the world and works closely with Livewire connections, another race partner. We now have the ability to monitor the race and maintain the highest standards of safety and security, as well as keep everyone informed and up-to-date.”
