Two teenage explorers will set of on March 10th on an extraordinary journey that will see them attempt a world record breaking trek from the North to the South Pole in a unique and treacherous journey which has never been achieved. Despite appearing seemingly impossible, the boys, James Hooper and Rob Gauntlett, have a record breaking history already, when in May 2006 they became the youngest westerners to climb Mount Everest.
This new groundbreaking challenge will take in challenging ski legs, epic cycle rides, daunting sailing trips and will cover three continents over 11 months. If completed successfully the intrepid lads will cover 22,000 miles and experience temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees centigrade.
The expedition will also raise awareness about climate change and carbon emissions. It will be undertaken using only natural and human power rather than motorised transportation and will be entirely carbon neutral.
Ahead of the start of the expedition, James and Rob have been undertaking a gruelling training session including a 3000-mile cycle trip from Bilboa to Istanbul to build up their endurance and survival kids. Sports brand, adidas, heard both about the boy's amazing past achievements and forthcoming adventure and felt compelled to get involved. Consequently, the boys will appear alongside David Beckham, Sachin Tendulkar and Jonah Lomu. The advertising campaign, entitled 'impossible is nothing,' will air at the start of March.
David Beckham was inspired by their commitment:
"When I met Rob and James I could see how impressive they were as people. It's good to see that adidas are to create an advert that showcases their spirit and 'impossible is nothing' attitude. What they are trying to achieve is remarkable and I am sure that they will do it. I, like everyone else, wish them well in their epic journey."
