Skandia Cowes Week Ladies Day Trophy: And the Winner is...
Copyright onEdition 2006At a packed ceremony last night at Skandia Cowes Week that was attended by top flight sportsmen and women, organisers, sponsors and media, the inaugural Ladies Day Trophy was presented on behalf of the regatta organisers, Cowes Combined Clubs, by Dame Ellen MacArthur to Mrs Betty Moore in recognition of her outstanding contribution and commitment to sailing at this world-famous yachting event. Betty, from Horsham, West Sussex, has raced her Solent Sunbeam, WHY, in every Cowes Week since 1947, but sadly this year she is confined to shore due to a recent operation, however, the 88-year old is determined to be back next year for her 60th year.

ImageWith just ten days to go to the start of the 180th anniversary of the World’s oldest, largest and greatest sailing regatta, the organisers and sponsors of Skandia Cowes Week are finalising their shoreside and on-water plans; entries numbers are looking good and stand at 945 (at 1130) and they are coming in at a rate of 8-10 a day. Everyone is looking forward to a superb regatta to mark 180 years of this unique sporting event. There’s a real buzz in the air as an entire year’s background work finally all comes together for the start of what will be another incredible eight days of competitive racing and shoreside festivities.
